How do I properly clean and sanitize a mattress topper ?
Question:I have the TOTAL INNERGY SLEEP SYSTEM that I bought from Ginnys.com. My dog did his business on it and left some good stains. I did what I could at the time but it irks me to know there is poop and pee that I can't get to deep into the topper. How do I deep clean and sanitize it properly? Would it be ok to use a Bissell Little Green Machine to clean it? This is a $200 item less than 3 months old.

If you are talking about a mattress pad , you can wash it regular cycle , warm water , and tumble dry.
If there are any electric cords in it I would not try to launder it yourself with a steam clean.
You could find out how much for a dry cleaner to launder since they have some other options not available to you and they deal with the dirty work.
If you can get wet, Quick n Brite pink paste works amazing.
I am using Resolve carpet spray and Rug Doctor Pet Odor Eliminator all over the house today to get rid of pet potty problems (poop, pee) and throw up.
At Home Depot, the ChemDry canned spray cleaner is amazing. I used to own that and want to go buy some more.
I would put the soiled spot over the sink and pretreat it with that kind of stuff (409 and dawn is also awesome). And then blast it with the sprayer on hot to get the stain and yuck out.
As for the germs side of it you could use (last) an anti-bacterial cleaner, or bleach water.
If you use the Little Green machine you'll want to put something underneath it that you don't mind transferring the stain and yuck onto because that is what will happen. (Which is why I hose things/blast things over the sink so it just drains away).
When you are all done you can pin it up outside in the sun to air it out.
For the smell: Nature's Miracle or fresh lemon juice (squeezed from a lemon).
I hope this helps!
I'm having a little trouble envisioning what you are trying to clean. But if it resembles upholstered furniture or part of a mattress, I would probably use the upholstery attachment on my Hoover extractor carpet shampooer. So I think your Little Green Machine might do it. What I like about extractors is that they shoot the cleaning solution in, scrub it around a bit, then suck the "yuck" back out. I'm not that familiar with your machine, but I think it might work as well.
Are you talking about a Pillow Top Mattress. Guys if this is what this person is referring to, it is a pillowy pad sewed onto the top of the mattress and can't be removed. Honestly I don't have a good answer for you on how to clean it but maybe you can update to be more specific on your description of a "mattress topper". Someone mentioned a spray at Home Depot...sounds like a good idea to me.
ok wait this is what you are talking about

Well on the website, the one I'm lookin at has a zipper so you can remove it and have it dry cleaned. For the future, you should by a cover that repels EVERYTHING!! I have one on mine and if my son pees on it from his diaper, it won't soak through. I purchased it at a furniture store but I'm sure you can get it anywhere.
