What can i clean my leather sofa with?

Question:ive got a light coloured leather sofa and its filthy, any good products i can use to clean it with. Im in the UK.

Answers:
If you have a steam cleaner it would do the job perfectly.I like the steam cleaner as you don`t have to use chemicals. If not buy some leather shampoo. It should do the trick.

damp cloth. DAMP
How about you leave the cleaning of your sofa to me - take off your clothes & i'll use u2 clean it!! Who said cleaning cant be fun?!
I've got some leather wipes from Tesco (think they are Mr Muscle) - there was quite a range in there so I guess other supermarkets would stock them too. Do a test patch somewhere that doesn't show and then, if OK clean the whole sofa (check the actual instructions on the pack you buy).
hi...i use baby wet wipes and they bring it up nicely.and it dont cost a fortune either..they clean amultitude of things.
A damp cloth, or you can go to a leather dealer and get a special cleaner. I was advised to wipe it over with leather softner every six months as it stops it cracking.
For Light Spots and Spills
Example: Wine spills
Wipe excess liquid up immediately with a clean absorbent cloth or sponge. If necessary, use clean lukewarm water only and let the leather air dry naturally. If water is used, clean the entire area where the spot occurred. Do not dry wet areas with blow dryers or brought under the sun.
For Oil, Grease
Example: Butter, cooking oil
Wipe the leather with a clean, dry cloth and let the remainder of the oil dissipate into the leather. Do not apply water or try to wash a grease spot.
Body and hair oils and perspiration left on leather can cause staining, drying, cracking and/or peeling.
For Stubborn Stains
Example: Ink stain
Apply a mild, non-detergent soap solution with a clean wet sponge. Rinse well and let air dry.
try baby wipes
Don't use any product that has soap in it. Use a wool detergent.
i have a black leather couch and its always getting milk splashes on them off my kids. i had used all kinds of products including leather wipes. nothing seemed to work very well so i was fed up one day and used fairy washing up liquid and a very damp cloth, then rubbed the excess off with a dry cloth, it did an alright job so i always do that now.
You need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner. Strong cleaner or Maxi Cleaner if it ivery dirty. With light coloured furniture dye transfer from clothing can be a problem.

DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones. (Most 'conditioners' contain waxes or oils) and furniture polish contains silicones

BABY WIPES are the worst thing you can use as they will destroy the finish on your leather. They are very strong alkiline cleaners to neutralise urine (acid) on babys skin so they are not the right thing to use on leather.

Saddle soap is too harsh to use on todays furniture.

A lot of leather wipes contain chemicals which will also destroy the finish or leave residues on the leather which will damage it. They are not cheap in the long run as you would need a lot to clean a whole leather sofa. A bottle of foam cleaner should do your furniture 1-2 times.

Fairy liquid contains more salt these days to get dishes clean and this will break the finish down on your leather. This has been verified by the manufacturers (as with the baby wipes).

You should also follow cleaning with a good water based leather protector which will act like a 'scotchgard' and inhibit dirt and stains from being absorbed and make cleaning easier the next time.

Dry leather needs rehydrating with water and oils and waxes should not be used as the natural oils do not dry out of leather. Wiping over with a damp cloth regularly will help to do this.

It is important to maintain a regular cleaning regime cleaning dirt off the surface regularly and inhibiting the absorption of body oils into the leather with a protector is the best way of doing this.

The alternative is a brand new product on the market called Lazy Leather. This is the latest technology in cleaning and combines an effective cleaner with a protector. It is quick and easy to use and should be used as a maintenance product once your suite has been cleaned or from new if you have just bought it.

Please please DO NOT use milk, it will seriously damage your leather. Not only will it smell it will leave a sticky residue which will attract more dirt. Dirt and body oils are the 2 main things that damage leather so anything which attracts more dirt (ie things containing oils and waxes) will lead to further damage.

MILK---Work in small sections.Rub on with a soft cloth, work in all directions, then wipe with a soft cloth. You may have to repeat several times if it is really dirty. The oils in the milk also keep the leather soft.
