How do I remove rust from cast iron cookware?

Question:

Answers:
Hot water and an S.O.S or Brillo steel wool pad. When you have that all done, rinse well and dry over heat, on the stove. Once the water is gone, Use a paper towel to rub SHORTENING, not oil, over the inside surface. Let it heat for about 5 minutes. Then, rinse out and scrub with a plastic or nylon bristle brush after each use and re-apply the shortening. This will "season" the cast iron and will prevent rust. Store the cast iron in a dry place, like the oven, when not in use. Just make sure you check the oven before you use it to take out the cast iron, LOL.

use a s.o.s. pad then after it dries wipe a thin coat of veg oil all over it and repeat process after each use
Rinse it out after every use DON'T USE SOAP. Dry it with a paper towel, and then put some oil in it, like veggie oil, and wipe it around.
use wire wool while its dry and then when te rust has mostly gone use an abrasive scrubbie and soap and water to get rid of it all.
it will now be clean but will have lost its non stick surface. to re season the pan ( and make it non stick again ) you need to get it screaming hot on a burner and use a dry rag to rub rock salt into it in a circular motion. this can get a little hot on the fingers but the heat is neccesary to act as a catalyst for the salt. you will see the salt getting dirty as it picks up the impurities and the skillet or whatever will get darker an shinier. keep on going until you think it looks good and if when you use it you re not happy you can go through this process again.
good luck
