What's the best way to clean walls?
Question:My apartment walls have a yellow/tan cigarette film over white paint. I want to wash it off as well as the smell of old cigarettes. My landlord does not want me to paint it so I will wash them. The paint is in good shape but there is slight texturing. I tried wiping down one wall with water and vinegar. It takes a lot off but it needs something stronger. Have you had this problem and what was the most effective way to clean it.

To really get the stains out and the smell Use TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate). I'm sure you can find it at most hardware stores in the paint department. Wear gloves and follow the direction's. It's get at getting off grease in the kitchen to. Good luck.
I find that the Mr. Clean eraser takes off a lot of stuff on walls. If that doesn't work a very light bleach solution should. A light solution would be 1 gal of water and 1/2 cup of bleach.
Good luck.
Mr. Clean magic erasers work wonders. That is what I would try, along with quitting smoking. Hope all goes well!
Mr. Clean magic errasers. They work great and work just as well on flat paint as well without rubbing the paint off.
I concur, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
Been there, done that. I used a mop and a bucket of warm water with 1/4 cup dishwasher detergent dissolved in it. Starting at the top and working down, easier to not have drip stains that way. If you don't have really high ceilings, you can just use a big car wash sponge and wear rubber gloves.
