Can't get urine smell out of room!?
Question:My bf and I just bought a house. Apparently the last family living there didn't care or notice that their son's room smelled horribly of urine. Not sure if it was his, or the dog they had, but we've tried everything to get it out. We've shampooed the carpets, aired out the room, use air fresheners and candles and it has had no effect. Does anyone know how to get the smell out? Thanks in advance!
Answers:
Try soaking/shampooing the carpet with white vinegar. Vinegar is great at getting smells out.
your gonna have to rip up the carpet and probably paint the floor boards with primer before recarpeting...try kilz primer
Try shampooing the carpets again, but use a mixture of baking soda & water..i've heard that helps with pet odors, so maybe...good luck!
You're gonna need to rip out the carpet.
More than likely it is in the pad under the carpet or even in the wood floorboards...
You might even have to rip up some of the wood.
Sorry for the bad news but until you REMOVE the source it will just keep coming back.
the carpet may need to be replaced. I had a similar problem with a cat. I pulled the carpet up, painted the floor with Kilz, then replaced the carpet. If the smell is in the subfloor, you'll need to block it with the kilz, before you do anything else.
Well replacing the carpet and repainting would do it but I am guessing that is not an option right now.
FEBREEZE is the best stuff around for getting rid of smells. Buy the spray, the plug-in type (FEBREEZE not glade) and use the Arm and Hammer carpet powder ALOT.
You may need to buy a few bottles of the FEBREEZE and use it with your carpet cleaner/steamer to be sure it gets down into the pad beneath the carpet.
Good Luck.
The carpet definatly has to go. If it was dog pee the you might hafta replace the floorboards.
Use white vinegar, it'll take the smell right out!
I like the first answer. However, first you might try liquid Lysol. Walmart and other dept. stores also sell odor removers that take out stain and smell ( You may find these in the pet section. I would soak it for a while. Then try shampooing again. Also, Kerby (the vacuum cleaner people) sells a bottle of orange stuff (I don't know the name) that works really well. Then there is resolve. It may take quite a bit. I'm sure any way you do it is going to cost a lot of $$$. I would also recommend washing the baseboards and the walls (and if there are any vents) with whatever you are using. Good luck.
Hello,
It might be the better to get rid of the carpet and see how the floor looks. In the mean time I find a product called natures miracle is very effective in getting rid of Urine odor.( I had an indoor cat that was at war with the outside strays a few years back.) I highly recommend it. Also there is another Natures Mir. with oxy..in an orange bottle that I have heard customers swear by. This product can be found in any large pet store chain- call and see if they carry it.
Hope that helps!
I would sprinkle backing soda on the carpet and let it set for a day or two. Then vaccume it up. If that doesn't work you need to get some small containers and put either backing soda or vineger in them. set them around the room and either one of these if good with taking bad odors out of a room.
have you tried that product Urine Gone? It comes in a black bottle and you can get it at Target. It's supposed to be an enzyme that nuetralizes the stain & smell. I've used it on pet stains a few times and works pretty well.
If you want to cover up the smell, there is carpet foam you can use that helps but only temporarily.
Good luck!
