My washer and dryer room smells like cigarette smoke. What could cause this smell (other than the obvious)?
Question:I have been told it may be mildew cause by the washing machine ... I am not sure
Answers:
Mold and mildew are pretty distinctive, if you have experienced them before, so that doesn't sound likely.
1- Clean out the lint catcher on the dryer. Lint is getting into the heating coils of the dryer and burning; (there is a very unlikely chance your machine could catch fire, if this is the case...)
2-(more likely) one or more of the rubber drive belts in your washer or dryer is bad and needs to be replaced. You'll need a professional to do this.
3. (the obvious) someone you live with is taking a toke every now and then.

Make sure there isn't any lint around the washer/dryer. Dust or lint can catch fire.
The belt in your washer might be going, that's sorta a burning smell.
Maybe mildew or something of that nature but I don't think so.
Hope you find out!
