What is a good way to keep white T-shirts white?

My kids have all sorts of tee shirts with graphics and etc, so I have lots of experience with this :)
Wash the tee shirts in regular detergent, but use borax instead of a bleach/non chlorine bleach additive. Toss them in the dryer for just a minute, and then hang them outside for a few hours to dry. If you don't have a clothes line, put them on a regular clothes hanger and hang them from the patio, deck, or whatever.
The UVs in the sunshine will naturally bleach the whites of the tee shirt and make them smell fresh.
You need to wash your clothes separately. Light with light and dark with dark. Then you use the bleach that is meant for color clothes. If you want to do hard work then you can hand wash them.
