Our house seems to be so dusty. I dust & vacumn and 2 days later it is so bad again? I only have one pet.?

Question:My pet has short hair. Our house is small and we do have a lot of stuff. Our basement is not finished. We built the house 10 years ago and we've had problems ever since. What Can I do?

If you have central heat/air make sure all your duct work is connected properly. If it's loose you could be getting dust into the house that way. Try the pleated filters if you haven't already. They are a lot better than the old fiberglass types or the washable filters. I change mine every 14-21 days because of the dust in our area (West Texas).

Another thing I would check is the dryer vent. Make sure it is connected properly and is not letting lint back into the house.

Pets carry more dust than you might think. If you have pets in the house, try to brush them (outside) after their trips outside and bath them regularly.

If you installed carpet in the house when you built it ten years ago, it's probably time to think about replacing it with something that is less prone to collecting dust. We are replacing the carpet in our home, a little at a time, with laminate flooring. I have noticed a big difference in the dust in the house and my allergies in the past year as a result.

i think its airflow in the house.. furnace (if you have one not moving enough air.. you can get a air purifier not the ion ones but one with a washable filter..
Do you have central a/c, if so then I would suggest having your ducting cleaned or getting some really good filters. I use the Lysol air filters they are expensive but really cut down on the dust etc. If you don't have the central a/c then you might want to buy an air purifier. Hope this helps.
Try replacing a/c filter and heater filter.
You could try doing what I did. Go through everything you have, and those things that haven't been used in a year or that you don't see yourself using again in the near future, donate to the Goodwill store or some charity. Get rid of all the carpeting and put down tile floors, have the air vents cleaned and change the filters. Exchange blinds for shades, which are easier to keep clean and dusted.

The less stuff you have, the less stuff you have to clean. That's my motto.
I have a long-haired cat who leaves plenty of hair and mess.
You can't have pets AND a clean house unless you want to spend ALL your time cleaning your house. You have to choose between the two. I've come to the conclusion that pets really belong outdoors or on farms. :) But I'm keeping my cat, so I'm learning to live with the hair.

I also keep a Dustbuster charged and ready so I can go around sweeping up small messes every few days.
If you live in a big city like I do in Los Angeles, dust is probably from the air outside. We never open any window in day time while we are in and out. This will help keep the dust out, though not completely, as the house has many other openings, like chimneys and air duct. Closing all the windows actually also keeps the heat out in summer and keeps the heat in during winter (for house with insulated walls) i don't use an air purifier machine, so I don't know if they will help, though I don't think it hurts.
Well its kind of pricey but they have a new electro static filter and it never needs to be replaced. You will know its working the minute they get done installing it to your existing a/c unit because you here it snapping the dust. We put them in at City Hall because people were getting sick from all the dust. The air even smells cleaner now but like I said its pricey.
I can only think of one thing, check your air filter in your heating/cooling unit. It should be changed every three months. You can buy "fancy" ones that supposedly help keep your air cleaner. Otherwise, you may need to have your air ducts cleaned. They could be the problem too. Hope that helps.
i have the same problem and no pet...you did not say if you have carpet and how old is carpet ..mine is the old carpet but cannot aford to replace yet...also...make sure you change and clean all a/c filters in everyroom...i gave ..i only do once a week even it it needs everyday...more inportant things in life..
