How can I become a better housekeeper?
Question:I have always been a "messy" person, but eventually I always clean up after myself...until my hubby came along...and he's more messy than I am and he DOESN'T clean up after himself. I want to be a better wife, a cleaner, more organized one. After 12 hour shifts at work I am exhausted. Any tips on becoming unlazy amd more organized? Serious answers only please. Thanks!

OHIO - only handle it once. When you bring in the mail, sort over a garbage can, throw away what you can, and read through the rest and write out bills. Also, if you keep a magazine throw out another. I know these are little things but they really do add up.

I work 50-60 hours a week, I maintain the house during the week, picking up after myself and my boyfriend. Then on Saturday is when I do my deeper clean. Just one room at a time. I start off with bathrooms, kitchen then , the living room, bed room.
Depending on how well you maintain during the week, is how much you save for a Saturday cleaning.
Another suggestion, is if you don't want to have your free time, your day off for cleaning. Then rotate a room each night after dinner..
I do my housework like this . I always work in 1 room at a time, never take things back to their rightful homes until I finished in that room. I set the alarm clock to go off in 15 min´s time. When the alarm sound´s I either stop for the day, or I set the alarm clock for another 15, min´s. You will be surprised as to how much you can get done in this short amount of time, If you try for yourself. Never pick up after your husband , What happens is , they see you do this once & they just think it´s normal. My husband used to leave his dirty socks in the bedroom, 2 days he did that & for 2 days i left them there, I wanted so much to pick them up but In the end I said , why are your sock on the floor, Oh yes he said & picked them up. You can put your washing machine on last thing at night or program it to come on early in the morning . So they will be ready to hang outside , or pop into the dryer. I give the bathroom a clean at night, less to do the next morning, I ´m the last to have a shower at night & first to use it in the morning , So it´s nice to enter the shower clean , & leave it clean for the next person. But make sure you point out to all the family. You left it clean for them, so they must leave it clean for you. Set some rules and you will have less thing´s to do. Try with the 15 min´s , once you get into the swing of it . your house will be so much easier to manage
