How can I get built up grease (olive oil from cooking) off of glass & ceramics? (already tried Dawn)?
Question:My mom heated water to almost boiling & added Dawn & still cannot get the grease (from cooking oils) off the ceramics & glass bottles that were sitting on the top shelves of the kitchen. Anyone have any ideas of what else might work?
Thanks a bunch! (:

You can buy a product called Greased Lightning in the cleaning aisle of any Wal-Mart type store. It works like a charm! You may have to spray it and let it set for a while, but it's great stuff. I use it to clean out my gas grill every spring.
You can use a solution of Ammonia and water. Read the directions on the back of the ammonia bottle for dilution.
Windex rocks
you have to use a special cleaner called "ceramic stove top cleaner" they sell it at wal mart. its like a wax that you apply and then rub off. it reallty works well try it!!
Try soaking the glass bottles in the warm soapy water. I've always used dawn. As far as the counter, you could try 409. that stuff works for me, but i usually clean the grease up with in a day so it doesn't get a chance to set. Letting the areas soak is probably your best best.
soft scrub applied with a sponge that has a scouring pad... use the scouring side
Well, I have a dishwasher so I no longer have that problem, steam cleaning would work but I don't know if your ceramics have paint on them that might come off in the process, I really want to get one of the small ones for the kitchen, my stove is always a mess, my husband and I both cook, and I have heard the steam cleaners really work well. Also, you might try dishwashing liquid. If you lived near me I'd run em thru my dishwasher for you.
Fantastik spray works really well on grease. Let it sit for awhile. Be sure to wash the items again with regular dishsoap because Fantastik is a household cleaner, not a dish soap!
You might try vinegar and baking soda together. If you can let the bottles soak it would the vinegar would loosen up the grease.
You wouldnt believe me if i told ya : ) LOL.. But I had the same problem and you know what works great and is affordable is just a wet S.O.S. pad... Just being a lil careful on ceramics though but it will work wonders on both the glass and ceramics .. Also after you clean your glass and ceramics with a S.O.S pads, then use dawn and they will look beautiful...Hope it helps hun...
P.s. another helpful tip, if theres grease inside little crevices and you cant seem to get them out , take a old toothbrush and wipe it on the S.O.S pad and then take the brush into the crevices, it works everytime...
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Also, the Clorox/Lysol wipes work really well.
