Hard water and dishwasher rinsing?
Question:New home, brand new dishwasher. There is a whitish stain on my dishes. I am not using too much detergent- I use the bare minimum. I added Jet Dry...and it persists. Could this be due to the hardwater in my area? Any suggestions for getting rid of it?

I have really hard water and I tried almost everything that has been suggested. I finally bought Cascade Complete dishwasher detergent and it worked like a charm. It's a little more expensive than most detergents, but I don't have to use anything else and the dishes come out great.
It's probably the hard water. You can get a water softner and install it.. it's pretty easy to do .
Ru nthe diswasher for a few cycles with just a few dishes and no soap, then run a laod of dishes thru and see if it still there. If so you ARE using too much soap. Also most Jet Dry dispensers are adjustable, start low and move up. Mine is set just above half on the dial and I don't have any of your type issues.
Yes! There is a product called Lemi-Shine that will eliminate that problem. Wal-Mart and a lot of the grocery stores carry it. You just put a little in the closed container with your detergent and run your dishwasher as usual. I cannot use my dishwasher without it the water is so hard here. I love this stuff!
I have this problem too. My kitchen is set up with a "soft water loop" which means the entire house has soft water except the kitchen. Can you get a plumber to bring soft water to your dishwasher? Another idea: you can rub that film off with 20 Mule Team borax which is a water softener (it will not scratch the glass and is also good for removing coffee and tea stains from cups). I throw some into every sinkful of dishwater to increase suds and soften the water. I also toss in a spoonful WITH my dishwasher liquid soap. It helps through the washing cycle, not to sure about your rinsing cycle. Give it a try, it's roughly $3.89 a box.
