Smoky-smelling clothes?

Question:We're in the process of cleaning out my mom's house. I brought her clothes home and washed and dried them a couple times, but they still reek of smoke (she and my dad were both heavy smokers). Is there any way to get the smell out, short of having EVERYTHING dry-cleaned (which would cost more than we can afford right now).

Answers:
ugg that sucks. did you try downy? try drying them outside in the air.

You might try adding a cup of white vinegar in with the wash. You still add soap also, but the vinegar will sometimes take out unpleasant odors.
Might try oxy to help remove the smell...

Good Luck,
Borax usually does a great job removing odors. Soak the garments in a cup of borax in water with regular detergent. Another product that works well on removing the residue and thus the odor caused by cigarette smoke is called Krud Kutter which you can add to the laundry water in conjunction with your detergent. (You can get a entire gallon at the Lowes and it is non-toxic, biodegradable, fume free and powerful stuff.) Then with which ever method you use, add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse water.
Frabreeze Spray or even the laundry soap that has it in already which i think is Tide
try a little bit of ammonia or hydrogen peroxide, when you wash them. it works!
My mom is a smoker too - Febreeze works really good. Try spraying the clothes after you wash them with febreeze and running them through the dryer again, and hopefully the febreeze will permeate the clothing! Also lol I go wild and spray mine with tons of perfume and body spray, or maybe try washing them and letting them hang dry out in the sun (these are all the things I do with my own clothes) ...I hope this works...! Good luck to you =)
Fire would do the trick. Burn them and get some new clothes.
Wash them and make sure you use fabric softener. While the clothes are still wet, spray with Febreze or a Fabric Refresher. I have used just about every brand, and they all work about the same, just different scents. Hang them to dry, or you can just do what I do, and place them across the house furniture to dry. Once they are dry, this should remove the smoke smell. If you still smell smoke, then spray them after they have dried, and spray it until the fabric is moist, and toss in the dryer, with a dryer sheet. I have used this when smoke gets into my clothes after going to smoky clubs and bars, and it works really well.
pour some ammonia in wash it helps a lot
