How do I open the top part of my range to clean under the burners?

Question:My range is an old model, Hot Point brand. I tried to lift up the top, but I cannot get it open.

Answers:
They all lift up. If its old, then it just may be really dirty under there and difficult to lift. The only other alternative you may have is to call a HotPoint dealer (in yellow pages under appliance dealers) with the model number. They will be able to tell you everything you want to know about the range.even how to order new parts if and when needed.

If it dont lift from the front then some of the older models didnt lift.Just have to work at it best you can.
If it is a sealed burner gas unit you will screw it up good, raising the top will break the gas lines.
if it is electric old style with removable electric burners then you can raise it, best to consult user guide or get model number on bottom of drawer base and see.
If you can get the model number contact the company.

Most companies are very accommodating.
Some of the older ranges did not have a tilt up top. You have to remove the burner elements (they plug in) and remove the drip pan and trim ring and reach in with your hand.
you shouldn't have to lift it up. You should be able to take off the rings and pull out the elements. Then you can just reach in and wipe it up.
