Whats the best way to hand wash clothes?
Question:Ok, so my washing machine is broken and that really stinks. I need to hand wash all my clothes. I have a bathroom sink, a kitchen sink, and a bathtub to work with and powdered laundry detergent. Whats the quickest, most effective way to wash underwear and shirts?
Answers:
Soap up the clothes with liquid laundry detergent, using about one quarter cup for a half full kitchen sink. Use the same temperatures as you would set your washer to. Mash the clothes about in the sink and get them thoroughly wet. If there are any spots on the clothes, rub the fabric together with a little extra detergent till the spot is gone. It helps to use a bright light to do this part. After the washing, let them soak about 5 minutes, then wring them out. That means squeeze and twist them till they are as dry as possible.
Then put the clothes to the bathtub and run it half full of cold water. Swish them around to get the clean water all thru the fabric then leave the clothes to soak for about 10 minutes. Got back and wring the clothes out again. Repeat the rinsing process again, making sure the suds are out of the fabric when you wring them the second time. Then run cold water in the bathtub one last time and pour about half a capful of fabric softener in the water. Swish the clothes about again and leave them soak. Wring them out and hang them up to dry.
With soap. Just wash 'em like you wash dishes. You could also get a washboard.
The bathtub is the best way to do your shirts and pants because they are the bulkiest. The sink is good for your delicates. I would not use the powdered soap unless you are going to very diligent when rinsing them out otherwise you will have a powder residue.
Dissolve your soap before you put it in with your clothes and then fill your tub add soap and start washing!! Drain tub fill with clean water to rinse. Then wring it out real well.
on your knees by the river bed...lol
Dishwasher!
Use Woolite. That's what I use when I need to handwash. Powdered soap is too grainy for handwashing.
