Can anyone tell me about a laundry device patented in 1879.Brass Bell on bottom with spring on stick?

Question:This device Has a stick with a handle and spring on it. The brass part has steel insides with holes in it. When you mash the handle down it probably agitated the water. I can't find anything about it in antiques concerning washing machines. That was what I was told it was when I bought it years ago.

Answers:
Is this what you have.I absolutely love antiques and I have been looking all over for this and all I could find was this.
