How to tell between cotton fabric versus polyester?

take a small snippet from an inside seam and hold a match to it.
if it burns, it's cotton.
if it melts, it's polyester.
you can do the same with synthetic and human hair wigs... hair burns, synthetic melts and shrivels

polyester is rougher? i'm not sure.. but i remember my parents buying me cheap dockers and wrangler clothes when i was a kid. that stuff isn't allowed to touch my skin anymore...

Thereshould be a tag on the item telling what the fabric is and also washing instructions. bettyk
polyester usually has a slick side and isn't very absorbent. It doesn't breathe hardly at all. Cotton is very absorbent and softer feeling.

Polyester fibres will have shine that cotton does not have.
