the only plae i have seen it is in a bar of soap at the supermarket. it was in the cleaner aisle, not the bath soap aisle.
Drain-o and certain other plumbing cleaners. It used to be available in powder form at hardware and ranch supply stores as well as some nurseries (it is used to balance soil ph). Some people still use it for homemade soaps; you might try a craft store online.
find someone that has a fireplace and get some of the ashes from inside it, tis where lye comes from.
