I got my fluffy down comforter WET trying to clean it...?

Question:Help! I got a down comforter wet while cleaning a spot on it. Can I get it back to its fluffy condition? I do realize I will have to have it dry cleaned, but will that fix the down??

Answers:
Put in dryer for 30 minutes on low heat. The tennis balls are a good idea, but you can use a clean canvas sneaker as well... Most down comforters require the use of a duvet cover. If you use a duvet, the comforter won't get dirty and you will only need to launder once a year. Duvets also help keep the oils from our skin out of the down and turning it into a non-fluffy pancake! If you like the white look, like I do, just get a thin white cotton duvet. Cotton covers keep it light and fluffy, too. When it gets dirty, you just strip the white cover off and wash it like you would your sheets.
P.S. DON'T trade it for a "down alternative", because its stuffed with 100%polyester and it so heavy and hot to sleep with! Stick with the real stuff. Down Rocks.

Done deal. Wet causes the feathers (DOWN) to matte. Go with the synthetic comforter next time. Bed, Bath and Beyond have some dandy ones!
Try tossing it into your dryer on low heat and add a couple of tennis balls.. The tennis balls will fluff up the down again.. Keep an eye on the progress, and check about every 10 minutes until you are content with the fluff! Good luck
Once the spot has dried, put the comforter in the dryer for a few minutes on "Air Fluff" or no heat cycle. This will tumble the down around and fluff it back up without damaging the comforter.
Yeah, I had a down feather bed, loved it. washed it, and dried it in the big industrial dryer. yeah, didn't work out. I even used tennis balls in the dryer to keep it "fluffed". yeah that didn't work either. Once the feathers get wet, they will have a "bird" smell to them also. I miss it, it is now let's say, dead and gone. It came out in one lump, I tried and tried to pull and fluff and arrange them feathers,,,,,just left huge lumps everywhere. Good luck.
