Is it safe to put pillows in the washing machine?
Question:It's a silly question but I heard you werent supposed to.
Answers:
It'll mess up your pillow if you put it in the washing machine. The stuffing inside will get clumpy and uneven making it a very uncomfortable pillow. If it really needs washing you can always give it a try on a very gentle cycle, but be prepared to buy a new pillow in case that doesn't work outl.
Well the tag says tumble dry low...
lol I just saw that this morning and i was like "Pillows in the washing machine??" haha
yes it is safe... don't know where u heard that u can't put them in the washing machine... prob an old wives tale...xxx
I do but sometimes the fluff or whatever it is in the pillow gets bunched up. wash it on delicate cycle and dry it on low
Depends on the pillow. I wash my regular bed pillows about once a month...In hot water and tumble to dry. Mine ARE NOT down pillows...Mine are synthetic cheapies...So, if it rips or anything it's under $5 to replace..
Yes, you have to fluff them real good after you wash and dry them. It cleans them good though!
i do-- because they need washing too check if there are any labels on them for wash instructions
you are correct most machines are to ruff and make holes in the pillows leaving you with a super mess not counting stopping up the water lines and hoses. cheaper to buy new ones.
I have; I*ve washed both feather and foam; but you cannot put foam in the dryer because they may catch fire.
With feather pillows you have to squeeze, squeeze, and squeeze again then hang outdoors for a few days, shaking them and finally after a week or so you have a wonderful smelling pillow.
well i have, and they usually turn out ok, I mean what else are you supposed to do? Throw it away because its dirty?
A pillow is intended to be used encased in a cover (usually with a printed design on it) which we in UK call a pillowcase. That way the pillow remains spotlessly clean and washing shouldn't be necessary. Have you been doing something naughty on your pillow?
As long as the tag says they are washable, yes. Some, like down pillows must be dry cleaned, but most you can wash and dry (on low).
It's perfectly fine to put them in the washer as long as the tag instructions say machine washable. Feather and Down pillows are not machine washable. Always wash two together to keep the balance. Fluff and then pop them in the dryer.
put a few 2-3 tennis balls in the dryer with them it fluffs them back up great!
You can wash anything as long as you take your time and do it right. When washing pillows make sure to even out the load,so it will spin properly.I would just fill washer and soak pillows in detergent and cold water, than set on spin, fill and let set for rinse, then spin again. The thing is the drying of them.Throw them in the dryer with some tennis balls and they will fluff back up.I take mine out and put in front of a fan overnite to be sure they are dry.hope this helps...
umm. i did it.. but only because my pillow tags say that it is safe..
the only thing that sucks with that is they come out all bulky ..
what i do now is i surface clean it..and wash the pillowcase with all my sheets, and then when i put my sheets in the dryer i shove the pillow in there with them so they are getting steamed..
makes them less bulky because they arent filling with water.
I put a decorator pillow (matches the sofa) in the washing machine and it ripped the seam and the stuffing leaked out.
Depends on the pillow. If it still has tags, follow that.
If it's down, it will ruin the pillow. If it's synthetic, it's Ok, but use a really gentle cycle or it will become very lumpy.
No it messes them up trust me. I put a nice expensive pillow in the washer it is in the trash now.
I wash mine on the gentle cycle and dry them. They turn out okay
