Why does blankets smell of the Sun after I leave it out in the sun?
Question:Ok so ever since i was little, my mom always said that you should put your blanket out in the sun once in a while, and it will make you fall asleep faster. Anyways, every time after it has been hanged out in the sun, the blanket has this really nice smell and also feels really soft.
What i want to know is what is that smell from? how does the sun make it smell and feel that way?
I really don't know how to discribe the smell, i have always asociated it with the sun so i called it the smell of the sun, but i can't find any better ways to discribe this.
Answers:
its the smell of nature, when i was living in the uk at my mums she always hung the covers out every sunny day, she said that the wind would soften the insides with movement (pretty much like puffing it up), the sun would dry it properly (even on cold nights your body will still sweat a little) and kill the bacteria and things that make it smell bad, and that the garden flowers and tree's and fresh air would fragrance it.
I always slept great when the covers were hung out during the day.
Now i live in BKK and i tried a few times to hang my covers out, but all that happens is they start to stink like car fumes and sewers! not pleasant :)
it kills the bacteria that would otherwise be emitting the stench that would normally come from your body when you sleep on it. its the smell of clean sheets.
at first i thought ur question was dumb, but it's kinda cute. it's just one of those familiar scents that brings u back to a happy time. i'm sure the fresh air does give it a good scent, and maybe the wind blows it and makes it softer, but most likely it's just something u believe in because ur mom taught u that and whenever u do it u think of her, that scent, and how ur suppposed to fall asleep faster.
I should try that! I didn't understand your question at first but I do now.
